Maradona reveals Newells dream after watching Gimnasia win from pitch-side throne

Diego Maradona was handed a rapturous reception by former team Newell's Old Boys as he returned as Gimnasia boss, even being given a "throne" to watch the game in what was a 4-0 win for the World Cup winner's team.

However, Maradona and his throne arguably stole the thunder, right after the coach, who briefly played for Newell's Old Boys (1993-1994), made a speech to fans before the game, attracting applause.

TNT Sports LA even set up a live "Diego Cam" that streamed throughout the match as the man himself relaxed on his new chair.

"I have a broken heart because I know I'm coming back here. My heart tells me that I will return because I want to train Newell's".

Leandro Contin scored just before halftime before Maxi Caire, Horacio Tijanovich and Matias Garcia netted second half goals as the visitors secured their second win since Maradona took charge on September 5.

Maradona, who turns 59 today, then sat down and watched his side inflict what was the Rosario side's second defeat of the season.

"This is fantastic, I didn't expect it", Maradona said of the special celebration. I turned it around.

Newell's, whom Maradona represented as a player in 1993 and 1994, paid the 1986 World Cup victor a moving 30-minute tribute before the match.

Maradona added: "Today we had no mistakes and my players covered all places for good Newell's players and that's why we won".

Prior to the match, Maradona was still feeling the love for the side he played for more than 26 years ago as they packed the concourse outside his hotel room a night before the big game.

Their next match is at home against ninth-placed Estudiantes on Saturday before facing a trip to Aldosivi as they attempt to continue their momentum.
