Despite an increase in discovery rates of asteroids and advancements in technology, however, the agency still needs "more hands on deck" to identify monster asteroids large enough to wipe out the entire population. According to the agency, this asteroid has an estimated diameter of about 144 feet.

A huge asteroid is about to skim past Earth at its closest approach in 115 years. This makes it about half as tall as the Statue of Liberty.

NASA's On a Mission podcast recently discussed NEO (near-Earth object) asteroids, reminding the public that the Earth is at the center of a "cosmic shooting gallery". The asteroid, which the examine claims collided with one other asteroid past the orbit of Mars, could have produced sufficient dust to blanket Earth and subsequently dramatically cool the planet.

First spotted by astronomers only earlier this week, the asteroid dubbed 2019 TA7 is set to fly by Earth at a speed of over 22,500 miles per hour at 6:53pm ET on Monday, data from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) reveals. Whenever asteroids get too close to these planets, they can get affected by their gravitational pull, which can then alter their trajectory. Occasionally, its orbit intersects with that of Earth as it reaches its farthest point from the giant star. As previous reports have shown, mid-air explosions caused by asteroids are known to produce high levels of energy.

Meanwhile, Singapore's CPI-All Items inflation is projected to be around 0.5 percent this year and average 0.5-1.5 percent in 2020.

The asteroid is a similar size to the Chelyabinsk meteor, which exploded over Russian Federation back in 2013.

Its impact smashed windows and injured more than 1,000 people.

Fortunately, it seems 2019 SR8 will completely miss Earth during its upcoming approach. The asteroid will approach Earth from a distance of 0.15753 astronomical units or about 14 million miles away.
