Sony has announced it will shut down its Sony PlayStation Vue Internet-based TV service at the end of January.

John Kodera, Deputy President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, blames "the highly competitive Pay TV industry" for the death of PlayStation Vue, as he claims it didn't adapt as quickly as the company hoped it would.

But the PS4 has outsold its would-be competitor, the Xbox One, by such a wide margin that Microsoft stopped providing console sales figures back in 2014. However, the service never expanded beyond North America and the TV market is getting more cluttered as time goes on, with every Television studio launching their own streaming service. The shutdown will happen on January 30 2019.
