Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch Tuesday for London, Middlesex County, Oxford County, Elgin County, Sarnia-Lambton, Norfolk County, and Huron-Perth. These storms are then expected to track southeastward across southern Ontario during the afternoon and early evening hours.

The agency said the thunderstorms will likely move through portions of the GTA late in the afternoon bringing damaging winds as well as torrential downpours, lightening and hail.

But Anwar Knight, CTV News Toronto's weather specialist, warned that things would change after calling it "one of the muggiest October days on record".

Environment Canada has upgraded the severe thunderstorm watch, to a severe thunderstorm warning.

Environment Canada explains that a "severe thunderstorm watch" is issued when "atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall".

But now the forecast calls for showers with the risk of a thunderstorm on Wednesday night. "Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!" says the release.
