The US delegation included the heads of key House committees including Foreign Affairs committee chairman Eliot Engel, Homeland Security Committee chairman Bennie Thompson, Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff and Representative Mac Thornberry, the top Republican on the Armed Services Committee.

"With the deepening crisis in Syria after Turkey's incursion, our delegation has engaged in vital discussions about the impact to regional stability, increased the flow of refugees, and the risky opening that has been provided to ISIS, Iran and Russia", Pelosi said in a statement.

Thornberry, who is not seeking reelection, is the only Republican to join Pelosi. "With the deepening disaster in Syria after Turkey's incursion, our delegation has engaged in very crucial discussions relating to the impact to regional stability, increased circulate of refugees, and the harmful opening that has been equipped to ISIS, Iran and Russian Federation".

Pelosi, along with the nine-member Congressional delegation, met with Jordan's King Abdullah II in the capital of Amman late Saturday for talks focusing on security and "regional stability", according to a statement from her office.

She then noted that the delegation is visiting Jordan amid the crisis in Syria and Turkey's incursion.

Turkey agreed on Thursday to suspend its offensive for five days, demanding the Kurdish forces withdraw from a designated strip of the border about 30 kilometers deep (19 miles).

On Wednesday, Pelosi and Senate minority leader Charles Schumer walked out of an acrimonious White House meeting with Trump on Syria, a sign of the deteriorating relations as the House conducts an impeachment inquiry.

But other lawmakers, such as Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., and Sen.

Pelosi did defend her feud with Trump in a press conference where she said: "What we witnessed on the part of the president was a meltdown, sad to say".

In what was seen as a bid to temper some of the criticism, Trump earlier this month announced a pledge of $50 million in humanitarian aid to Syria.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) arrived in Jordan on Saturday, where the House's top Democrat is leading a bipartisan delegation of lawmakers to meet with top Jordanian officials.
