Actor Andy Serkis will play Batman's most trusted ally in the upcoming movie directed by Matt Reeves. The director took to Twitter to announce the news with a GIF of the acclaimed Lord of the Rings alum, which can be viewed below!

Both Matt Reeves and Andy Serkis worked together on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes. This isn't the first time Matt and Andy are collaborating.

The Batman movie has found its Alfred Pennyworth.

Full plot details for The Batman are now under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues' Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. Reeves has said that his Batman film will be a neo-noir that focuses on Batman as the world's greatest detective, something the vigilante is known for in the comics.

The news about Andy's inclusion comes amidst speculations that Matt is considering Colin Farrell to play Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin.

The Batman cast now looks something like this: Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

Matt Reeves' The Batman will begin filming this November/December and is set for a summer 2021 release.
