Champions League round-up: Juve and Bayern into last 16

Back to his old stomping ground can Ronaldo condemn Manchester United to a defeat

Back to his old stomping ground can Ronaldo condemn Manchester United to a defeat

Douglas Costa scored the winning goal in the 93rd minute to send Juventus through to the Champions League knockout stages with a 2-1 win over Lokomotiv Moscow on Wednesday.

Guilherme had gifted Juventus the lead after four minutes when he allowed Cristiano Ronaldo's powerful freekick from an unlikely position near the touchline to squirm through his legs before Aaron Ramsey touched the ball over the line.

Many suggested that Ronaldo is past his days when he used to score glorious goals from freekicks, and now should pass the responsibility to other players in the team.

In their UEFA Champions League match against Lokomotiv Moscow, a Ronaldo free kick at three minutes went off goalkeeper Guilherme Marinato and through his legs.

It was a game full of entertaining moments, including the minute of madness that nearly broke Cristiano Ronaldo's free-kick duck.

Payano said he carries his passport because of how often his ID is questioned, but he said the clerk wouldn't accept that either. Jose Payano says a cashier at a CVS in IN refused to accept his Puerto Rican ID when he tried to purchase cold medicine.

Far from outclassed, Lokomotiv almost went ahead in the 78th minute but Joao Mario saw his shot cleared off the line by Leonardo Bonucci with goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny caught out of his ground.

What does it mean?

It was Costa, a man blighted by injuries in 2019, who came up with his first goal since January.

Sarri surprisingly replaced Ronaldo with Paulo Dybala in the 78th minute but the move paid off as Juventus took all the points thanks to an inspired moment from Costa. Moreover, the manner in which he delivered the victor - with brilliant close control and a fine finish - will have excited Sarri.

An injury-hit start to the season has stunted former Arsenal midfielder Ramsey's progress at Juventus too, but he displayed promise in his 64 minutes on the pitch. As it rolled over the line, Aaron Ramsey poked it into the net.

Maurizio Sarri replaced Ronaldo with Paulo Dybala with the score level at 1-1, with Douglas Costa scoring the victor in added time. He had eight shots again in Moscow, only three of which were on target, and there was an air of desperation, perhaps understandable given the circumstances.
