Lufthansa crew strike to result in 1300 cancelled flights

For cancelled flights, the airline should provide passengers with a document setting out these rights either by email or a leaflet handed to them in person, however, in reality, very few airlines actually do this, said law firm Bott and Co.

Lufthansa said Wednesday it was scrapping 1,300 flights as German cabin crew pressed ahead with a two-day strike, plunging passengers into travel chaos amid an escalating row over pay and conditions.

"Passengers can use the Deutsche Bahn in exchange for flights on domestic routes, regardless of whether or not their flight has been canceled, " it said.

The announcement of 700 flight cancellations on Thursday and roughly 600 on Friday come after a Frankfurt labour court denied Lufthansa's request for an injunction to block the strike.

"Lufthansa regrets the inconvenience for the passengers, " it said.

UFO planned the warning strike to press Lufthansa for additional allowances at wage negotiations, citing what it claimed was management's "ongoing refusal" to negotiate. The airline has cancelled around 1,300 flights for Thursday and Friday.

Lufthansa Group airlines Eurowings, Germanwings, SunExpress, Lufthansa Cityline, SWISS, Edelweiss, Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Brussels Airlines will not be affected by the two-day strike.

As part of a dispute over pay and pensions, UFO has fought with the airline in court for months over the union's legal status.
