Nurul Izzah invites Cambodian opposition figure Sam Rainsy for meeting in Parliament

"By tomorrow, November 9, we will be together and move forward to Cambodia and the Thai border, until we reach the end of our plan", she said.

On Thursday, Sam Rainsy said he was blocked from check-in at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport for a Thai Airways flight scheduled to arrive in Bangkok on Friday morning.

Rainsy arrived in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, at about 4 p.m. Saturday, joining his deputy Mu Sochua.

"We must decide our own destiny", she added.

Saifuddin said neither Sochua nor the other two Cambodians possessed a Cambodian passport when they arrived at KLIA.

Saory Pon, general secretary of the CNRP overseas section, said the release subject on conditions was part of a strategy to avoid the loss of the EU's Everything But Arms agreement, which allows Cambodia to export tariff-free to the bloc.

He has been in self-imposed exile for the last four years.

Self-exiled Cambodian opposition leader Mu Sochua, who is Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) vice-president, was detained upon arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang just before midnight on Wednesday, but was released the next day.

But it was dissolved by a court in 2017 ahead of elections the following year. That paved the way for the ruling Cambodia People's Party to win all 125 parliamentary seats, turning the country into a one-party state.

Cambodia's government also appears to have reversed its hard line on Sam Rainsy entering the country.

Human rights groups have accused countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) of trying to protect Hun Sen by obstructing and detaining his opponents.

The Trump administration, also on Friday, condemned the recent arrests and reminded Malaysia of its obligations under worldwide law barring the return of people to face torture.

Pheng Heng, a lawyer for Kem Sokha, confirmed that some restrictions were lifted but said the ban on politics was too broadly worded and unclear. "Cambodia must respect its worldwide obligations".

Umm Qasr receives imports of grain, vegetable oils and sugar shipments that feed a country largely dependent on imported food. At a nearby makeshift clinic, volunteer medic Manar Hamad said she had helped treat dozens of wounded on Saturday alone.

In Cambodia on Saturday, Hun Sen and constitutional monarch King Norodom Sihamoni attended a celebration ceremony at Independence Monument in Phnom Penh, the capital.

"Under the new requirements, he can travel anywhere but can't leave Cambodia ..."

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation spokesperson Koy Kuong said on Friday that Cambodia had made it clear many times that Rainsy is a convict who meant to topple the legitimate government on his return.

In an email to RFA, an embassy spokesperson said that the U.S.is "deeply concerned" by expanding arrests, harassment, and intimidation of members of the CNRP, and by efforts to thwart the return of citizens seeking peaceful participation in the country's political process-actions they labeled "an escalation in the suppression of the political opposition".

"We must understand that as the leader of the democratic voice in the region, Malaysia must lead by example in advocating that everyone's rights be respected".

Cambodia's government said there was no ban on Sam Rainsy returning, but it described him as "convict Sam Rainsy" and said it would take action against anyone posing a threat to state security - an accusation it has already laid against him.

During the day, hundreds of security personnel blocked the Poipet worldwide border crossing at the Thai border, and only selectively let people in.

He also said that when PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was jailed in 2000, the wife of Rainsy; Tioulong Saumura came to visit Anwar as a show of solidarity.

"Once they are imprisoned, the issue will be resolved".

"He has announced that his return is in the name of innocent people and he will be entering Cambodia in good faith".

Cambodia's Permanent Mission to the U.N.in Geneva also issued a statement on Friday calling Rhona Smith's comments "unbalanced and misleading", saying that actions taken by the authorities against "wrongful deeds ... can not be construed as [a] political crackdown". "This must be Hun Sen, Cambodian dictator", who put pressure on neighboring countries.

Speaking to RFA, CNRP deputy president Eng Chhai Eang said that the statements from Sok Ey San and Cambodia's mission in Geneva suggested that the CPP has no intention of initiating dialogue with the opposition, as urged by the USA and United Nations, but he said that the CNRP will not abandon its goals.
