'The Mandalorian': How That Reveal Changes What We Knew About 'Star Wars'

We just had no idea that the asset would not only be what it was but just how cute it would be. This is Disney's master plan: take up all the air that's left.

IndieWire television critic Ben Travers was mostly a fan of "The Mandalorian" pilot episode, writing in his review, "In a way, it's quite satisfying to see a much-anticipated, heavily guarded pilot episode be executed with such efficiency".

The Mandalorian is set 5 years after Return of the Jedi.

If Disney+ had kicked off its inaugural wave of "Star Wars" content with a "Muppets"-style sitcom about bored Cantina bartenders, I wouldn't have been the least bit surprised (or, for that matter, disappointed, because that actually sounds awesome)". What about all the planets the war never gets to?

Former Buccaneers CB Vernon Hargreaves claimed off waivers by Texans
The Bucs had picked up the $9million fifth-year option on Hargreaves' contract for 2020, but that was only guaranteed for injury. The Houston Texans claimed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Vernon Hargreaves off waivers Wednesday, the team announced .

While the people behind "The Mandalorian" have their thinkin' caps on, it might also help to know why bounty hunting - the capture of humanoids and other species who are in financial hock to gangsters, crime lords and random shady lenders - is such a recurring theme in Lucas lore. He was well protected when IG-11 and The Mandalorian arrived at his safehouse-like location, Kuiil (Nick Nolte) mentions that many bounty hunters have passed through, IG-11 seemed to be there on a separate bounty with intent to kill, The Client appears to want to rid the galaxy of its potential, while Dr. Pershing seems intent on studying him for science. "I don't know if you've heard, but the Empire is gone", he says.

The first episode of The Mandalorian dropped on Disney+ at various times between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning - and now fans who managed to pull an all-nighter to catch a glimpse of the first-ever live-action Star Wars show are wildly speculating about that ending and what it could mean! Baby Yoda. Baby. Yoda. It's the kind of reveal that indicates that the Mandalorian could have played a crucial role leading up to the events of present-day trilogy, particularly the concluding "Rise of the Skywalker" chapter that hits theatres this December. (To give credit where its due: the cinematography and production design of these scenes are fittingly gorgeous for a series with such a high budget.) In fact, until the very end of the first episode, the Mandalorian remains as monochrome as his surroundings, making moments when he finally betrays some semblance of personality - most especially when he's frustrated with Taika Waititi's matter-of-fact bounty hunter droid - even more precious.

Looking past that, Disney Plus is impressive mainly for its archive, which by now includes a heaping helping of everything. More Disney properties grafted onto Disney notions of life.

Directed by Clone Wars and Rebels alum Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian's debut episode packs a wallop and serves as a strong statement of intent from Disney. The remaining seven episodes will premiere each week, beginning Friday.
