YouTube’s Revamped ‘Rewind’ Video Is Here And It’s Already Copping Bulk Dislikes

YouTube has taken a brand-new approach with this year's YouTube Rewind mashup video - dropping its tradition of highly produced original videos segments. The inclusion of figures who didn't rise to prominence as YouTubers was rejected by the platform's most ardent users.

If you don't remember last year's video or simply want to watch the disaster all over again, we've included it below for your viewing (dis) pleasure.

YouTube Rewind 2018 was met with.not-so-great feedback.

YouTube on Thursday published its annual Rewind, a compilation meant to highlight the top trends, videos and personalities that emerged on the platform over the past year. The video runs through the most liked creator videos and music videos, the most viewed video games, most notable creator breakouts, etc.

What Nirmala Sitharaman said after 'Don't eat much onions' remark
Onion prices have been rising incessantly across India, reaching as high as Rs 150 per kg in certain parts of the country. Attributing shortage to low production, the minister said there are severe structural problems related to onions.

That suggests YouTube is, essentially, too large to encapsulate in a short end-of-year video.

But previous year fans were unhappy because it featured celebrities like Will Smith rather than YouTubers who had made their name on the platform. YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki even revealed that her kids told her the video was "cringey."

"In 2018, we made something many of you didn't like", this year's YouTube Rewind says in the intro. "So in 2019, let's see what you DID like". Compared to last year's video and the ones before that, it's a bit anticlimactic.

From Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson's record-breaking Conspiracy palette launch to Tati Westbrook and James Charles' massive public drama to Jaclyn Hill's infamously faulty lipstick line launch, so much has happened in 2019 to send beauty vloggers to the top of the YouTube charts.
