Before then, fans can see the prototype model in locations throughout Japan, including at the 2019 NISMO Festival this Sunday.

The current-generation GT-R has been with us for a long time, yet Nissan has spiced things up with the the stunning GT-R50 by Italdesign concept which will enter production as a limited edition model. The exterior redesign turns the heads of even the most non-car people out there, and under the hood, the 3.8-liter V6 is that little bit more potent.

Nissan will be making just 50 examples of this supercar, which was created in conjunction with Italdesign, and though demand has been relatively strong, Nissan says it still has a few reservations available, although at this stage there is no word on whether there will be a right-and-drive version or whether it will be available to South Africans for that matter.

The GT-R50 is meant celebrate the 50th anniversary of Italdesign, which took place in 2018, and the GT-R's 50th birthday this year. Ltd., a subsidiary of VT Holdings, which has been appointed official importer and distributor for these exclusive cars in the country.

Deliveries of the limited-run Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign to customers will commence in late 2020, with the fist customer vehicle to be displayed at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year.

"Our customers have relished the personalised experience provided by Italdesign, who have a long tradition in the exclusive field of ultra-rare, bespoke high-performance vehicles", said Nissan sports auto boss Bob Laishley. The GT-R50 builds further upon the powertrain from that vehicle, where the VR38DETT biturbo V6 engine gains larger GT3-specification turbochargers, larger intercoolers, higher-flow injectors and optimised ignition, intakes and exhaust.

The prototype vehicle, which debuted in June 2018, will be on display at this year's NISMO Festival, held at Fuji Speedway on December 8.
