R. Kelly charged with paying bribe before marriage to Aaliyah
Singer R. Kelly is facing new bribery charges that appear to be related to his 1994 marriage to a teenager.
On Thursday (Dec 5), federal prosecutors in Brooklyn accused Kelly of bribing an IL government employee on Aug 30, 1994 in order to obtain phony identification for Aaliyah.
Kelly will stand trial on one of four sexual abuse cases on September 14.
The fake ID was to be used to obtain a marriage licence that listed her age as 18, a person familiar with the matter said.

Earlier this year, Kelly's lawyer Steven Greenberg claimed on "Good Morning America" that Aaliyah lied about her age at the time, unbeknown to Kelly: "My understanding is that she did not claim to be 15, and in order to get married, she had to lie about her age". She died in a plane crash in 2001.
R. Kelly's attorney Douglas Anton called the latest charge against his client "ridiculous and absurd" in a statement to the AP.
The "I Believe I Can Fly" singer is now facing four separate cases in three different states on charges that include kidnapping, forced labor, possession of child pornography, engaging in prostitution with a minor and moving girls across state lines for sex. The 52-year-old singer, who remains in federal custody, is scheduled to go on trial in Chicago in April, and the following month in NY for other sexual abuse charges. Kelly, whose given name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was acquitted in 2008 on charges of videotaping himself having sex with a girl who prosecutors allege was as young as 13.
