Premier League club Watford have announced the sacking of manager Quique Sanchez Flores following a poor run of results. Flores, who previously was Watford's manager in 2015-16, took over on September 7 after Watford fired Javi Garcia following a lousy start to the 2019-20 season.

Defeat to fellow strugglers Southampton on Saturday left Watford six points from safety with just eight points from their opening 14 games of the season.

During Flores's 85-spell at the helm this year, Watford's solitary league win came against promoted Norwich City last month.

Chris Hughton is a possible successor and the Hornets said a replacement will be appointed "imminently".

Flores was sacked Sunday with Watford in last place in the Premier League and having won just one match in 14 this campaign.

The decision was taken after Sanchez Flores met with chief executive and chairman Scott Duxbury along with owner Gino Pozzo on Sunday.

Since Gianfranco Zola's exit in December 2013, Watford have had nine managers, including Sanchez Flores twice.

Watford are in their fifth season back in the Premier League since promotion in May 2015.
