Not Even Lord Ram Could Assure 100% Security: UP Minister On Rapes

The latest incident would only add to outrage in India over violence against women, after a 27-year-old veterinary doctor was raped and set on fire near Hyderabad city on November 27.

The event triggered demonstrations over the weekend outside the police station near where the 26-year-old woman's body was found.

"The attempt to set ablaze the rape victim is result of the prevailing "jungle raj" in UP". In response, thousands have taken to the streets in protest this week, demanding better protections for women.

Senior police officer SK Bhagat said that in the complaint the woman stated "one of the two rape-accused was in relationship with her in 2018, but he physically exploited her, lured her with a marriage proposal".

"As per the victim's statement, five people were involved in setting her on fire, including the one who was accused in the rape case", Vikrant Vir, a police superintendent in Unnao, told Reuters. Of the five, two were accused in the case and are out on bail.

The FIR was lodged in Rae Bareli and the woman and her parents were on their way to Rae Bareli on Thursday when she was attacked.

This is why it is best to avoid jewellery that will draw unwanted attention and take away the focus from what you are presenting. A delicate diamond ring, a simple platinum or gold band looks great and works well with both Indian as well as western outfits.

The woman was allegedly raped in March and the accused had later been granted bail, police were quoted as saying in a PTI report.

The remarks by Ranvendra Pratap Singh, the Minister of Food & Civil Supplies in the Yogi Adityanath government, came in the backdrop of a shocking incident in Unnao where a rape survivor was set ablaze by the accused who is out on bail. If the culprits were not shielded and prosecuted on time this wouldn't have happened.

"Not only the incident of Unnao, but the incident of Chitrakoot shows that the situation in the whole of Uttar Pradesh is very bad".

The Samajwadi Party and the Congress attacked the ruling Yogi Adityanath government over the incident. He echoed the popular BJP view that the rapists should face capital punishment for their crimes.

"According to the latest government crime figures, police registered 33,658 cases of rape in India in 2017 - that's an average of 92 rapes every day", the BBC reported. As grossly insensitive as it was, it throws into sharp relief a fundamental problem in the fight for women's safety in our country: a deep misunderstanding of the very ideas of equality and right to safety.

The gang-rape of a lawyer in Jharkhand and the rape and murder of a 6-year-old child in Rajasthan were also reported. "That way he will not try to harm you". "Later, he refused to get married and raped the woman with another friend".
