Boeheim lifts Syracuse past No. 18 Virginia, 63-55 in OT

Syracuse has enough offense and enough shooting to keep this game close.

It was a much different ending for the son of Orange coach Jim Boeheim, who told his son to just keep shooting after he missed 10 of his first 11 shots.

Girard led the Orange (9-7, 2-3 ACC) with 19 points, while Hughes added 18 points and nine rebounds. Virginia then used its 15-3 run to take the lead.

After losing to Notre Dame and Virginia Tech by a combined five points in their previous two games, the Orange entered overtime with a vengeance on Saturday and beat No. 18 Virginia 63-55.

The Cavaliers are 0-3 when trailing at halftime. The Orange must find a way to spread the offense out and open up lanes to drive so they're not chucking up a bunch of threes all afternoon.

For the first time in three seasons, Virginia's men's basketball team has dropped back-to-back games. The Orange found themselves in a risky position as Dolezaj and Sidibe faced foul trouble with four each, allowing Virginia to turn on the jets and jump on an 8-0 run to go ahead 31-30 close to the 14-minute mark. The good news if you can't make it to the game (in person) or watch it online/through the app is that the Orange Basketball game can also be heard on the radio. The Cavaliers made 28 percent (17 of 59) from the floor. Immediately thereafter, they went 7 minutes without a point. But then he drained a 3-pointer, putting Syracuse ahead 43-41. Syracuse's tournament hopes are now very slim but a win against this Cavalier side would certainly lift the spirits of Orange fans, however unlikely it may be. In one of the more intriguing matchups of the day, the up-and-down Syracuse Orange hit the road to take on Mamadi Diakite and the Virginia Cavaliers.

"It was just a tremendous, gritty effort", coach Boeheim said.

Their return couldn't slow down Virginia.

Backstage Update On Tyson Fury's WWE Future
Tyson Fury last appeared on WWE programming during the November 8th episode of SmackDown that emanated from Manchester, England. The Gypsy King defeated Braun Strowman in Saudi Arabia, but was upset that he will have more than one match in the WWE.

Tied at 11, junior forward Elijah Hughes scored back-to-back three-pointers to help Syracuse secure the lead.

The Cavaliers are 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games.

The Orange led by seven late in the first half before a Clark 3-pointer and a Huff dunk in the closing seconds trimmed it to 24-20 by the break.

Jay Huff led Virginia (11-4, 3-2) with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Two free throws by Clark with 1:19 left in regulation tied the game at 43.

Hughes missed twice in the final minute of regulation and UVA had a chance to win it with the last shot, but Clark missed a 3-pointer and there was a scramble for the rebound before time ran out on the second half. After a timeout, Hughes missed a 3-pointer with 33 seconds left. But an inability to score is a clear weak point for Virginia headed into this matchup.

Virginia lost 60-53 Tuesday night at Boston Colloge to fall to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
