Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has signed a one-year contract to play a 17th season

The future Hall of Fame wide receiver who will turn 37 in late August, is returning for his 17th National Football League season.

Larry Fitzgerald #11 of the Arizona Cardinals jogs off the field for halftime against the Seattle Seahawks during their game at CenturyLink Field on December 22, 2019 in Seattle, Washington. The future is so bright for this team & I relish the opportunity to build with this talented young nucleus, Fitzgerald tweeted shortly after the announcement.

Given how Fitzgerald talked about the team and his season late in the year, his return is not a surprise. "2020! Let's get to work!" That news came Wednesday as a by-product of the one-year contract Fitzgerald signed for 2020. He also was quick to praise first-year coach Kliff Kingsbury. Teammates wanted him back, too, though nobody seemed totally certain what his final decision would be.

In 16 seasons with Arizona, Fitzgerald is the Cardinals' franchise leader in games played, reception, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, total touchdowns and 100-yard games.

Fitzgerald is 5,812 yards behind Rice in receiving yards and has made 171 fewer catches.

After 16 seasons, Fitzgerald sits in second behind only the great Jerry Rice with 1,378 catches and 17,083 yards in his career.

"I think he's playing as good as anybody, honestly", he said of the 11-time Pro Bowl wideout.
