Producers have spent about six months working out what direction the new movie will take.

At this early stage, the cast haven't been confirmed, though Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith are "expected to reprise their roles".

Variety says the plan is for them all to return in Aladdin 2, but the actors won't be hired for a while yet, as the script still has to be finished and approved. "Past year there weren't one, or two, but three that hit cinemas in 'Dumbo", "Aladdin" and 'The Lion King'.

Airline passenger films man punching her seat after she reclines
That video has now become a lightning rod for debate about personal space and keeping the peace on planes. Why should you be inconvenienced? "Doesn't matter that she had her seat reclined", responded another .

When Aladdin was released Guy said he'd wanted to be director so he could make something his five children could watch. The bigger issue is that now these movies have proven to be so lucrative for so little effort that there's no risk in just throwing them together and pumping them full of big stars so they have a higher chance of getting butts in seats. And it will be a theatrical release, so won't be a Disney+ exclusive, though there have been previous reports of a Disney+ Original movie based on Prince Anders.

Despite the film's mixed reviews, Aladdin was still exceeded everyone's expectations at the box office with an earning of US$1.05 billion, making it the ninth highest-grossing movie of 2019, and it is also now the 34th highest-grossing movie ever made.

Based on the 1992 animated classic, the 2019 pic was a massive hit, becoming only the fourth live-action adaptation to cross the billion-dollar global box office milestone - joining "The Lion King", "Beauty and the Beast" and "Alice in Wonderland". A curious mixture of credits to throw into an Aladdin-shaped pot, but if Guy Ritchie's work on the first one demonstrated anything, it's that the Disney machine can sterilise any artistic voice, no matter how un-Disney they might seem. What do you think the film's storyline should be? However we don't know a whole lot about it yet.
