In China, all but one of the 57 new deaths reported Monday were in Wuhan and the rest of Hubei province, most of which has been under lockdown for nearly two weeks to stop people leaving and transmitting the virus.

The country's news agency says six officials in Huanggang, neighboring the epicenter of Wuhan in Hubei province, have been fired over poor performance in handling the outbreak.

"Taking into consideration the concerns raised by key government officials and health experts, the president made a decision and has agreed to adopt this recommendation and implement it immediately as additional precautionary measure to protect the Filipinos", the senator, a former close aide of President Rodrigo Duterte, said Sunday in an interview on GMA News TV.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued a fresh travel advisory on Monday urging people to refrain from visiting China as the death toll touched 361, exceeding the 349 mainland fatalities from the 2002-3 SARS outbreak.

There are now two confirmed cases of coronavirus in Russian Federation, both Chinese citizens.

The tenth and eleventh cases are in San Benito County, reported NBC.

Chinese government officials are angry with the United States over its growing travel ban in the wake of the growing coronavirus outbreak, pointing out that the World Health Organization has said stringent restrictions are not necessary. "What China urgently needs at present are medical masks, protective suits, and safety goggles", foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a press briefing.

Chinese nationals coming from China and connecting through foreign airports will not be allowed to travel.

In the United States, government officials urged residents not to travel to China, issuing a level 4 travel advisory, days after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak a public health emergency of global concern.

That guidance was included in a notice released by the department Sunday as new travel restrictions officially went into effect for flights commencing after 5 p.m. CDT.

With more countries imposing restrictions on travellers from China, and reports of discrimination against Chinese overseas, the country's diplomats began speaking out.

The Philippines joined the USA and others in banning entry to travelers from China.

American Airlines was the second U.S. carrier to suspend some of its flights to China due to a drop off in demand. The man is a student at the Boston campus of the University of MA who returned recently from Wuhan. Of those infected, 14,380 are in China. Prior to this, India has reported two positive cases of nCoV - both from Kerala.

In a worrying signal about it already spreading in significant numbers to other parts of China, the eastern industrial city of Wenzhou was on Sunday placed under a similar lockdown to Wuhan.

As of 1 pm IST on 1 February, a total of 17,392 confirmed cases of the infection have been reported worldwide, based on data from the World Health Organisation and the Centre for Disease Control.
