The Old Trafford giants have been short of options in attack this term with the injury suffered by England worldwide Marcus Rashford compounding their woes.

"There has been speculation from Spain and Italy but I've played there and now want to play in England", Ighalo said.

Manchester United's search for a striker has reached a happy conclusion as far as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is concerned after the club signed Odion Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Shenhua on deadline day.

It will now be United's second top signing during the window after landing Portuguese midfielder from Sporting Lisbon for a fee reported to be around £68million.

Ighalo leaves Chinese Super League (CSL) outfit Shenhua for Manchester on loan until the end of the season at Old Trafford, where there is reportedly no option to buy the Nigeria global.

The next morning he flew to Leeds, signed the deal there and set Manchester United on the winding, desperate road that led them to Ighalo.

Ighalo was one of the options United had in their shortlist as the frantically searched for a striker on transfer deadline day.

Ighalo's first spell in Premier League was with Watford between 2014 and 2017. Upon the announcement of the deal, Solskjaer placed his faith in the player.

He has 18 months' experience in the Premier League with Watford, scoring 16 goals including 15 in 37 games during the 2015-16 campaign.
