For the case to be confirmed, the results must also come back positive from tests done on samples at the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg, but Henry said she expects the case to be confirmed.

The patient was assessed in hospital after becoming ill a few days ago, said Henry, and the testing for the new coronavirus came back positive late on February 3. While the infection of her relatives hasn't been confirmed, transmission is assumed in the household, Henry said.

"This case is not unexpected". "It tells us that our system is working". Health officials previously revealed the visitors left China before the country imposed strict travel restrictions in an effort to contain the spread of the virus, but said they were conscious of the outbreak and minimized their time in public after they arrived in Canada.

Before Tuesday, the province had confirmed a single case of the virus in B.C., a man in his 40s who lives in the Vancouver Coastal Health Region and who had travelled to Wuhan.

Local and federal health officials - as well as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau - continue to reassure the public that the risk of the virus spreading in Canada remains low.

Canadians Evacuated From Wuhan Will Be Quarantined In Ontario This Week
Ottawa has confirmed more than 300 Canadians have asked for help to leave Wuhan, but the plane has room for only 250 passengers. A number of them will finally be flying back to Canada this week, but they'll be placed under quarantine again when they arrive.

On Thursday, Henry confirmed that the visiting relatives of the woman - a man and a woman, both in their thirties - were infected with quarantine and coronavirus.

"It's very different when you live with someone in a household than when you walk your dog down the street every now and then", she said.

Though the numbers change by the hour, Champagne said as of Tuesday 308 Canadians had asked for help to leave the country but the plane has room for only about 250 passengers.

Henry said it is estimated that about a third of the passengers will return on the flight to BC. after a 14 day isolation period at Canadian Forces Base Trenton.

The plane is scheduled to fill up at Vancouver International Airport, she said, and officials are preparing for the event that someone needs to be taken off the plane before heading on to Ontario. People with cold symptoms are urged to cough or sneeze into their elbow, properly dispose of tissues, stay home and avoid group gatherings.

However, she said some people from China have reported being ostracized and others facing the same reaction may fear contacting health authorities.
