THERE are two new positive cases of coronavirus confirmed in Mackay.

Queensland Health could not confirm where in Central Queensland the case is, but it is believed to be from Rockhampton and related to the three cases prior.

NEW cases of coronavirus in the Wide Bay have nearly doubled overnight, with 12 patients from the region now being treated.

Those women are counted under an "overseas" data on the latest alert.

Her companion later tested positive.

Health has issued a public health alert for the Sunshine Coast after a person visited three popular venues while infected with coronavirus.

Three cases were identified in Andover Township, Byram Township, Frankford Township, Hopatcong Borough and Town of Newton. According to the site, women account for just under 63% of confirmed COVID-19 cases, while men are just over 37% of them.

It is understood the cases are people who were part of the same travelling group that recently returned from overseas and flew into Rockhampton.

"Queensland Health's testing criteria, is created to ensure all possible cases of COVID-19 are detected quickly and efficiently (which) is critical when responding to an epidemic like COVID-19", the spokesperson said.

"The number of confirmed cases we see each day is expected to vary as we continue to respond to the COVID-19 situation across the state".

In other COVID-19 news around the region today, 33 Gympie cafes and restaurants have made their menus available for takeaway or delivery amid strict social distancing measures recommended by the Federal Government.

"Critically, make sure you are practising good hygiene and staying home if you're sick".

"Queensland Health is urging anyone who has been overseas in the last 14 days and has a fever or any respiratory symptoms to see a doctor immediately".
