Virus Outbreak New York

It's not the first time the Comfort has been to NYC, the ship was deployed to NY to render assistance following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

The USNS Comfort has 1,000 beds and 12 operating rooms that could be up and running within 24 hours of its arrival on Monday morning.

The USNS Comfort arrived in New York City's harbor on Monday, March 30. "It was like a beacon of hope", he said.

The navy's 1,000-bed USNS Comfort docked at a Manhattan pier as more U.S. states enforced stay-at-home orders after President Donald Trump abandoned his Easter target for life returning to normal in the United States. Officials said the ship is expected to begin receiving patients as soon as Tuesday.

The Mercy arrived in L.A. on Friday, March 27, just one week after Maddow said the ship will take weeks to arrive.

Speaking with CNN's Alisyn Camerota, Wen said, "It's not as if we get through today and we're done".

"This ship represents all that is good about the American people".

The arrival of the Navy ship, which was last in New York City during the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, is part of a massive effort involving the public and private sector to quickly reshape the health care system.

New York City is reorganizing its entire public and private hospital systems, transforming some or all of them into intensive-care sites for people who have contracted the coronavirus while other patients are diverted to temporary facilities. As of Monday, 790 city residents had succumbed to the virus. First responders and federal workers were housed on the ship, and its doctors provided them with crisis counseling.

"Probably the most iconic acts of heroism VB has seen in a long time", Brown wrote in a post accompanying the picture that has spread across the internet.

De Blasio said the city still needs "40 more" Comfort ships to reach its goal of tripling hospital capacity.

He emphasized that for 80% of people who contract it, it is in a fairly mild form. De Blasio said the outbreak may not peak until May. "To date, I still fear that the worst is not going to be April but actually the beginning of May". That's more than half of all confirmed cases in New York State and a quarter of cases nationwide.

De Blasio said late on Sunday the city has enough medical equipment to last a week but needed "several hundred more ventilators very quickly".
