Discount retailers, groceries, Amazon ramping up hiring amid coronavirus buying frenzy

Fulfillment centers associates who refer a new hire to their facility are eligible to receive a $250 bonus. Here are some of the companies looking to hire more workers. The bonus is for all US hourly associates in stores, clubs, supply chain and offices.

With heightened demand for household items and thousands of people without jobs amid coronavirus-related business closures, discount retailers like Walmart and Dollar General are hiring as well as Amazon and Target, which is ramping up Shipt hiring. The company is also implementing a new process to expedite hiring for key roles, such as cashiers and stockers.

Grocery delivery service Instacart on Monday said it plans to sign on 300,000 new gig workers to shop and deliver groceries, more than doubling its workforce of independent contractors.

"We are hiring in all [subsidiaries] across the 34 states (DC) we operate", the spokesperson said via email, declining to provide further details.

PepsiCo Inc. (NASDAQ: PEP) said it is planning to hire 6,000 full-time employees across the U.S. over the coming months.

"We couldn't be prouder of our PepsiCo team for the role they play in restocking pantries and refrigerators", he said.

Valve Thinks a Non-VR Half

While many workers on the First Coast, especially those in the hospitality industry, are finding themselves suddenly struggling; a handful of the largest retailers are upping wages and hiring. Both associates will be paid out after the new associate has been employed 90 days, according to the company. Some of the roles will support mobile orders made in 7-Eleven's 7Now app.

Zhao says new types of jobs are being posted by local governments and health care organizations.

"This will provide job opportunities and ensure 7Eleven stores remain clean and in-stock with the goods our customers need during this critical time", the company's president and CEO Joe DePinto said in a statement.
