Gov. Pritzker to give daily briefing on COVID-19 4 deaths at least 422 positive cases in Ill

Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced on Friday that the state will enforce its own version of a "shelter-in-place" order beginning Saturday at 5 p.m. and continuing through April 7.

Patients can not leave their homes, go to work or visit any group setting except to seek medical care and "life sustaining needs", including medicine or food, according to a statement from the Chicago Department of Public Health.

"I've asked every one of these experts, what action can I take to save the most lives?'" Pritzker said, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Grocery stores, take-out restaurants, banks, pharmacies and health-care providers will remain open, and citizens will be allowed to travel to those places as needed.

Pritzker also said that residents who go to the grocery store or to a gas station should "buy what you need within reason".

The governor said the medical community will remain open, including pharmacies so prescriptions can be filled.

"We have to mitigate the spread of COVID-19".

The picture shared during the morning rush hour showed people packed in close together as they travelled into the city. Can I leave the house? This latest scientific report has evidence that allegedly dismisses the governments advice.

As for schools, Pritzker said the re-opening of schools will now tentatively be on Wednesday, April 8.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported there were three more deaths linked to coronavirus in the state.

The governors of California and NY have issued similar orders, as have some municipal governments in IL.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said that starting Sunday, all workers in nonessential businesses must stay home as much as possible, and all gatherings of any size will be banned.

Pritzker laid down the groundwork for a potential order Thursday, telling parents to prepare for the statewide school closure to extend past March 30.

Suburban Oak Park has already implemented such an order, as has California. "Nor should they", he said. She, along with other officials, urged people to stay home to help prevent spread of the virus and bend the curve.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker has ordered IL residents to stay home as the number of novel coronavirus cases in the state climbed to 585 on Friday.
