This morning Mayor Bill DeBlasio stated that he is strongly considering issuing a shelter in place order for all city residents in an effort to flatten the COVID-19 infection curve.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there were over 800 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in New York City, as officials raced to limit the spread.

At 5 p.m. today, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams released a statement in support of shelter in place for the city calling on, "Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio to create a defined "shelter-in-place" policy-not a quarantine- immediately".

The mayor said the decision about whether or not to impose an order barring New York City residents from leaving their homes except under specific circumstances would be made in the next two days.

De Blasio said any decision about NY would be taken in consultation with state Governor Andrew Cuomo.

New York, Washington state and California account for the bulk of confirmed US cases of the highly contagious respiratory illness.

When asked if he would issue a shelter-in-place Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he's "resistant to nothing", the Brooklyn Eagle reports.

That resulted in delays to access a procedure, and that was less safe. "The next stage is making sure it's implemented". The decriminalisation of abortion was a win for Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her center-left coalition party.

"We are all deeply concerned", he said at a news conference, adding that it "is quite clear this is a fast-growing crisis". "Any blanket quarantine would require the State action and as the Governor has said, there is no consideration of that for any locality at this time". "I think the president was 100% honest in saying that he wanted to work together in partnership, in a spirit of cooperation".

"Whatever we do is going to be statewide, thought through, comprehensive".

"We are certainly going to have thousands of cases next week", he said.

On Sunday night, after facing pressure from parents and teachers unions, de Blasio agreed to close New York City schools for at least five weeks. NY now the highest number of cases of any U.S. state.

As the number of Coronavirus cases in the USA grew to 5,726 with 107 deaths, six counties in California San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Marin, Contra Costa, and Alameda Counties ordered almost 7 million residents to "shelter-in-place" on Tuesday. The order also allows for limited outdoor exercise, "provided the individuals comply with Social Distancing Requirements" that mandate keeping a distance of least 6 feet from other people.

The guidelines aren't mandatory, but they came after many cities and states, including NY, closed businesses such as theaters, bars, and gyms, required restaurants to provide only delivery and takeout, and prohibited large gatherings.
