On the first day of the nationwide lockdown announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, trains on the London Underground were crammed with commuters, openly defying the government's lockdown orders to stand two metres apart.

Numbers of passengers have reduced but Transport for London (TfL) reduced services on the Underground meaning that the trains that are still running are more crowded than they otherwise would be.

Nurse Julia Harris, who commutes to work at Imperial College NHS Trust, said she had left earlier and changed her route to avoid crowds but still found services busy.
