There are 1,975 people infected with the disease and Hubei province, the coronavirus epicentre, confirmed 326 new cases there on Sunday.

China has called for transparency in managing the crisis, after a cover-up of the spread of the deadly Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars) in 2002-03 eroded public trust, but officials in Wuhan have been criticised for their handling of the current outbreak.

The Canadian government has stepped up measures at major airports in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, where visitors are now being asked about any travel to Wuhan in the past two weeks.

Nearly 2,000 cases of a new viral respiratory illness have been confirmed since an outbreak began last month in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

Business is going on as usual at the hotels inside Hong Kong Disneyland, however, CCTV reported.

The virus, believed to have originated late a year ago in a seafood market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan that was illegally selling wildlife, has spread to Chinese cities including Beijing and Shanghai, as well as the US, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Australia, France and Canada. Lam also said that direct flights and trains from Wuhan would be blocked.

"This capacity is extremely limited and if there is insufficient ability to transport everyone who expresses interest, priority will be given to individuals at greater risk from coronavirus", it added. The Chicago patient is a woman in her 60s who had recently returned from Wuhan and had not had significant contact with anyone beyond her household, said Allison Arwady, commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health.

The French Consulate also was considering an evacuation of its nationals from the city.

An Ethiopian student in Wuhan told The Associated Press that it was becoming hard to buy food and the situation was worsening. Toyota Motor Corp. has halted business trips to Hubei province, including Wuhan. "We fear that we will be sick soon".

In Hong Kong, five people are known to have the disease.

South Korea confirmed its third case, according to Yonhap news agency. Beginning Sunday, most private vehicle use was banned in downtown Wuhan and surrounding cities were also placed under lockdown. The city will assign 6,000 taxis to neighborhoods to help people get around if they need to.

In a sign of the growing strain on Wuhan's health care system, the official Xinhua News Agency reported that the city planned to build a second makeshift hospital with about 1,000 beds. The city has said another hospital was expected to be completed February 3.

Local officials ordered Wuhan hospitals to staff 24-hour clinics to examine people with fevers and pneumonia symptoms.

To counter the health threat posed by the virus, the health authorities here said Saturday that they have designated mainland China a "coronavirus watch" zone as part of their ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus here.

Meanwhile, the Australian government is exploring options to evacuate Australian nationals stuck inside the locked down areas of China, around Wuhan city in central Hubei province.

Two new cases were reported Sunday - one in Los Angeles County in California and the other in Maricopa County, Ariz.

Elsewhere, long-distance, inter-provincial bus services had been suspended, including those to and from Beijing.

China says it's fighting a people's war against the new coronavirus.
