For Some, Stimulus Checks Are "Now You See It, Now You Don't"

For taxpayers who filed tax returns in 2018 or 2019, the child payments will be automatic.

Millions of Americans - especially those who use income tax preparers such as H&R Block and TurboTax - are still waiting for their promised stimulus checks, according to a report Thursday. "I was depending on that for my auto payment".

The IRS projects the payments for this group will go out no later than early May.

If the IRS doesn't yet have the 2019 return, it looks at the adjusted gross income on the 2018 tax return to determine the size of a household's stimulus check.

Horton qualified for the full $1,200 payment for a single person, and she received an additional $500 for her 13-year-old son. Social Security recipients will also automatically receive their payments, even if they haven't filed a return. However, JPMorgan Chase, the biggest bank in the U.S., said it wouldn't offset debts with stimulus funds but wouldn't give the money to the people either-it would return the money to the Treasury, to "determine the address to mail the full stimulus amount and ensure the former customer gets the full benefit".

The official told Fox News that the Treasury is aware of the problem and is actively looking into ways to iron out the issue, while maintaining that the program, in general has been expansive and successful.

We also asked about instances where some say they tried to access their payment status and the site said it was not available.

A Treasury spokeswoman that the IRS processed nearly 80 million payments in three weeks, but that's only a little over half of the 150 million payments expected to go out under the administration's and Congress' Economic Impact Payment program.

A wave of relief came over her: the stimulus money had arrived.

Naturally, if one or all of these things have happened to you it would make sense to jump on social media and fire off a tweet to the IRS asking what's going on with the money you were told you'd be receiving from the government. Recipients will generally receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their SSI benefits.
