A pet cat of a patient diagnosed with COVID-19 in Hong Kong has tested positive for the virus, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government said on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old owner - who is in a serious condition - had visited a bar in Central before developing a fever on March 20.

The pet was sent into to quarantine along with another mixed-breed dog from the same residence. She was confirmed as infected on Saturday.

Last Thursday, the Belgian cat had a positive reaction to coronavirus after infection from this disease from its owner.

"To date, two dogs are known to have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus following close contact with infected humans". The AFCD believed his old age and underlying illnesses were more relevant to his death than the virus.

The other dog remains quarantined despite repeatedly testing negative, according to local media reports.

France passes 4,000 coronavirus deaths
The government's strategy is aimed at limiting the peak of the epidemic so that the health system is not overwhelmed. It has registered more than 50,000 confirmed cases.

As of Tuesday, 27 dogs and 15 cats had been held in the quarantine facility. Four have returned home, while the others are under quarantine.

There is no evidence that people can transmit coronavirus to animals or animals to people, but "out of an abundance of caution", infected individuals should avoid contact with their pets until they have recovered, San Luis Obispo Animal Services Manager Eric Anderson said. Only the cat has tested positive.

Two dogs have also tested positive, also in Hong Kong, although experts say there is no evidence that pets can spread the virus to humans. It could also be reassuring that a huge veterinary diagnostic lab just lately said they have got now examined 1000's of cat and canine samples for SARS-CoV-2 and not using a certain circumstances.

"The immune system in cats and dogs is very similar", Dr Lawren Durocher-Babek said. To demonstrate infectivity, many more tests are needed. Without figuring out any scientific main points of this situation, we will be able to't inform whether or not COVID-19 was once answerable for the illness or if this was once simply an provoking twist of fate. Last week, another feline turned out to have the virus in Belgium. Vets at the University of Liège, Belgium then tested the cat for SARS-CoV-2 and subsequently detected the viral genome in vomit and a stool sample.

Thankfully, there is still zero evidence of pets transmitting the virus to humans.
