Facebook Shifting to Permanent Work-From-Home Status for Many Employees

Facebook's CEO says the company will begin

Facebook's CEO says the company will begin"aggressively hiring remote workers and allow current employees to request to work from home permanently

"We're going to be the most forward-leaning company on remote work for our scale", Zuckerberg said. Zuckerberg said there will be a wide range of jobs eligible to work remotely, beginning with newly-hired senior engineers and then expanding to current employees with strong performance reviews.

"Countries are going to continue to try and interfere and we are going to see issues like that but we have learnt a lot since 2016 and I feel pretty confident that we are going to be able to protect the integrity of the upcoming elections", he said.

Speaking at an internal employee town hall meeting livestreamed on Facebook, Zuckerberg said the company will take a "more measured approach to opening permanent remote work for existing employees".

"This is fundamentally about changing our culture and the way that we are all going to work longterm", Zuckerberg said.

The move follows a similar announcements earlier this month by social media rival Twitter and payments company Square, which were the first major tech companies to permit remote work indefinitely.

Facebook will permanently embrace remote work even after coronavirus lockdowns ease, CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees on Thursday, accelerating the tech sector's geographic diversification away from its home in Silicon Valley. He noted that when Facebook staffers quit the company, it's sometimes because they are moving to an area where the company doesn't have an office location. "There'll be severe ramifications for people who are not honest about this".

Washington Nationals to unveil World Series rings in virtual ceremony
After a longer wait than usual, the reigning World Series champion Washington Nationals are finally getting their jewelry. The start of the 2020 Major League Baseball season has been temporarily delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In testimony to the US Senate in October 2017, Facebook said Russia-backed content reached as many as 126 million Americans on its platform during and after the 2016 vote.

The company will initially ramp up remote work for new and existing employees in the USA and Canada, focusing on experienced workers, especially senior engineers.

Facebook, which has already said it will stick to plans to hire 10,000 engineers and product employees this year, will also build three new "hubs" in Atlanta, Dallas and Denver where remote workers in those areas could occasionally convene.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said Thursday he was "pretty confident" his company could help prevent attempts to influence the political outcome of the U.S. presidential election later this year. Zuckerberg said 95% of employees are now working remotely.

While it intends to start bringing some workers back to its offices in July, it will limit occupancy to 25% of normal capacity.

The shift could help remake the United States job market in tech, as Facebook now has more than 40,000 employees.
