George Russell wins virtual F1 Spanish Grand Prix after Charles Leclerc penalty

Another duel between Formula 1 drivers during the virtual GP of Spain

Williams driver George Russell grabbed a pic of his digital "self" on his computer screen as the Briton claimed a last-lap victory in Sunday's virtual Spanish grand prix at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barceloan.

Russell reeled in Leclerc two laps later but the Williams driver's efforts were virtually undermined by a 3-second penalty for exceeding track limits once too often.

The Briton tried to resist his rival by reclaiming the lead on the outside, but the maneuver failed, and Russell fell to fifth as Leclerc, Alex Albon and Nicholas Latifi rushed past.

"I am feeling ecstatic". Russell said. "When I got past Charles and I knew I had that three-second penalty I was pretty furious but when the radio message came in at the end and I heard he had a three-second penalty, I was nearly wetting my trousers!" But just as it looked like the penalty would cost Russell a maiden win in the Virtual GP series, Leclerc then got the same penalty starting the final lap of the race to throw away victory. I knew I had the pace around this track.

"The start was very important and I'm not sure what happened behind but I saw there was a crash", said Wehrlein.

During the race things didn't go much better for Norris, because after a bad start he was soon behind and would give up after seven laps. I enjoyed today's race and the whole experience has been wonderful, I would love to come back and do it again. This time he had to do better, with Esteban Gutierrez and Charles Leclerc right behind him.

But these have reportedly been met with a tepid response by Democrats as they seek to do even more with the next round of relief. It also provides $3.6 billion for "contingency planning, preparation, and resilience of elections for Federal office".

Although the top two laughed about the race together afterwards, Leclerc admitted he was frustrated to pick up his penalty so late after pushing to find more time. George probably had the penalty the same way I did. "But when that radio message came in at the end and I heard he had a three second penalty I was nearly wetting my trousers".

"But George was quicker anyway, so he deserves the win".

"It's such a shame, the second to last lap". It was fun racing with Sergio tonight and he showed he's really fast.

Despite his penalty, Leclerc held on for second ahead of Gutierrez, Albon and Latifi. "I'm not used to this winning thing", mentioned Russell after taking the chequered flag in a race broadcast all over the world and on F1's personal platforms.

The Briton's one-stop strategy mirrored that of the two-time Virtual GP victor Leclerc and on lap 20 Russell produced the fastest lap of the race to keep the pressure firmly on the Monegasque driver.
