Global COVID-19 cases top 4.8 mn Johns Hopkins

According to data tracked and analyzed by Johns Hopkins University, the number of people who have died from the virus worldwide is now over 328,000.

The U.S. has reported the highest number of confirmed cases and deaths from the coronavirus, with more than 1.5 million confirmed cases, 93,439 deaths and 294,312 recoveries.

As of Tuesday morning, the database reports 1.5 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. More than 90,000 people have died in connection with the disease.

States are taking different approaches on how and when to do so safely as a vaccine isn't expected before the end of the year. COVID-19 death toll stood at 89,564 out of almost 1.5 million cases, according to Johns Hopkins University's count .

China, ground zero of the virus, has registered 84,063 cases so far and its death toll continues to stand at 4,638. Overall, 328,462 people are reported to have died from the coronavirus, including 93,439 in the U.S. The actual numbers worldwide are nearly certainly significantly higher.

Overall, the virus has spread to 188 countries and regions. The UK is reportedly one of them, however, the NHS has warned that the country is "running out of time".
