Jason Thomas, the director of the Welsh Government's culture, sport and tourism department, told a Senedd committee that clubs can reopen.

"What people perceive to be "local" in Cardiff on the one hand, and in Mid Wales on the other, could be quite different".

According to Sky Sports News, this is understood to also include playing the likes of tennis and basketball with members of your own household only.

Meanwhile, David Stiles, marketing director at Lilleshall Hall Golf Club, is pleased with the move to allow golfers to play together and believes that people will be naturally cautious.

Sandia Golf Club, which has been closed for almost two months due to the coronavirus pandemic, will conduct a soft opening by allowing only Champions Club members beginning Wednesday.

It was initially thought golf could only be played either alone or within a household group, but the renewed guidance has clarified it can be played with someone from outside a household group - but the game would be limited to two players only.

That followed the English Government's announcement on Sunday that golf clubs could reopen for play, from tomorrow (Wednesday).

Sue LeBeau, manager at The South Staffordshire Golf Club, confirmed they too will be introducing tee times.

The extent of golf's popularity in England this week has been divulged perfectly by Hartford Golf Club in Cheshire, who told The Telegraph that Monday had "been the busiest day we've ever had here but also one of the most exciting".

"We're very happy", he said.

Hunstanton golf club posted on Twitter that it was reopening from 8am on Wednesday. But the most important thing is that on Wednesday, we will be open.

"We've all been adhering to the social distancing rules and I think they are now ingrained in us, people are careful now".

And Wales Golf has recommended that its 142 affiliated clubs consider waiting until May 18 - next Monday - to ensure they have sufficient safety measures in place before considering reopening.

"Without exception, the golf courses in England have been exemplary throughout this time, but the majority of them are creaking under the financial strain", he added.

Social distancing guidelines for golf have been put in place from the R&A whereby players must remain two metres away from their playing partner. Even so, after seven weeks of being unable to hit a ball in anger, stepping on to court or the first tee will feel like blessed relief.
