Grammy-winning 1970s soul singer Betty Wright dies at 66

Some of her most well known songs include: Clean up Woman, Tonight is the Night, and No Pain.

The music industry is suffering from another significant loss as sources close to Betty Wright's family have confirmed her passing. She signed to Deep City Records when she was 12. Wright was still an influence, being referenced as late as March in the TV show Unsung by DJ Khaled and Lil Wayne for her song, Tonight Is the Tonight. "Her mere presence brought a studio to life and she had the gift of making everyone feel confident in their ability to create something magical". Betty then went on to write and produce music for the next twenty years, with her final hit climbing the top of the charts in 1988. They released an album in 1956, when she was three.

"She was the foundation of funk in the Miami sound", says Willie Clarke, who had a special relationship with Wright dating back to that first meeting in the mid-1960s. "I don't look at it with an ego". Wright has undoubtedly inspired countless artists, with much of her work sampled by musical performers such as Chance the Rapper and the alleged child molester, Afrika Bambaataa.

Other Wright hits included Let Me Be Your Lovermaker and Shoorah Shoorah.
