Health officials say the number of coronavirus cases in Nebraska has topped 8,000, and four more deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported.

Stearns County added 57 new cases for a total of 1,405 and five deaths.

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department announced 40 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.

That brings the new totals to 12,373 confirmed cases and 271 deaths in the state.

There is also at least one new case in an assisted living facility. The most recent death was a 90-year-old woman who died from COVID-19 complications, according to the release.

After reporting 18 new cases among Lummi Nation community members last week, the Lummi Public Health Department reports it hasn't seen any new positive COVID-19 tests since Saturday, May 2. Gov. Tim Walz had stated his goal was to test 5,000 people a day. Officials said 71,476 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19. Of those hospitalized, 194 were in the ICU.

There are no deaths confirmed in Hart County patients and no hospitalizations reported by the DPH.

DCHD has reported that 247 people in the county have recovered from COVID-19.
