Montgomery County Police Sgt. David Cohen aims and shoots Finan H. Berhe as Berhe holding a knife charges at Cohen after the

"Put the knife down!" The officer exited his patrol vehicle and gave several verbal commands to Berhe to get on the ground and to drop the knife. "I don't want to shoot you!"

Police said investigators recovered a knife that Berhe was brandishing when Cohen shot him.

In the video, Sgt. Cohen is shown exiting his patrol auto in the 1500 block of Hadden Manor Court before drawing and aiming his weapon at a suspect identified as Finan H. Berhe, 30, who was holding the knife, WTOP reported.

A 3rd District officer who was first to arrive at Hadden Manor Court observed Berhe armed with the knife in the parking lot.

Cohen then fired five rounds, striking Berhe who collapsed to the ground, dropping the knife.

"Man down!" a man shouted after the shooting stopped. Berhe was black; the officer is white.

Maryland police have released body camera footage of an officer fatally shooting a man who rushed toward him with a knife.

Two people were seriously injured, and a man was in custody, county police said.

The police officer was said to have immediately rendered first aid to Berhe, before the latter was sent to hospital, where he died, according to The Washington Post, citing Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones.

The incident occurred in the 900 block of Balmoral Drive in the White Oak area, police said.

Cohen, a 17-year veteran of the police force, was placed on administrative leave, which is a standard procedure following a police shooting.

Police detectives' findings will be submitted to the Howard County state's attorney's office.

While the department released the bodycam video from Berhe's shooting a day after the incident, it hasn't released any body camera footage from Lemp's shooting almost two months later.
