The murder caused a global uproar and tarnished the image of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

'His ambush and heinous murder does not have a statute of limitations and no one has the right to pardon his killers.

"Therefore, we the sons of the Martyr Jamal Khashoggi announce that we pardon those who killed our father, seeking reward from the God almighty".

However, Salah Khashoggi said of the December verdict: "It has been fair to us and that justice has been achieved".

The family of the brutally slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi announced a pardon for those involved in the killing in an act of forgiveness during Ramadan, the month of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed by the Muslim community. "I and others will not stop until we get #JusticeForJamal".

Salah, who lives in the kingdom, has denied reports of a financial settlement with the government.

The suspects had been put on trial in secretive proceedings in the capital Riyadh, trials which were condemned by the United Nations and rights groups.

Analyst Nabeel Nowairah also said the family's declaration effectively means the "murderers will not be executed".

The family of murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2018, has pardoned his killers.

The 2018 season was a lost one for Freeman, as he only appeared in two games before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury. Freeman is also an excellent receiver, having caught 257 passes for 2,015 yards and 11 touchdowns during his six-year career.

Another three were given jail terms totalling 24 years, while a further three were acquitted, prosecutors said.

The watchdog Reporters Without Borders voiced fears that the five men's death sentences were "a way to silence them forever and to hide the truth". The body has never been found.

"What this essentially means is that the killers will avoid capital punishment since that is a right the family (under sharia law) has to forgive", Ali Shihabi, an analyst close to the Saudi government said on Twitter.

The Saudi prosecutor had previously said that Qahtani, a former high-profile Saudi royal adviser, had discussed Khashoggi's activities before he entered the Saudi consulate with the team which went on to hill him.

The prince has denied any involvement in the murder, but has said he took "full responsibility as a leader in Saudi Arabia, especially since it was committed by individuals working for the Saudi government". News reports have said the family received money and real estate from the Saudi ruling family as compensation for Khashoggi's killing.

Riyadh insists it was a rogue operation, having initially denied that Khashoggi died at all and then claimed that he died accidentally during a brawl.

Riyadh has described the murder as a "rogue" operation, but both the Central Intelligence Agency and a United Nations special envoy have directly linked Prince Mohammed to the killing, a charge the kingdom vehemently denies.

Prior to his death, Mr Kashoggi was living in the U.S. and writing for The Washington Post newspaper.
