Android TV Update Will Highlight YouTube TV Channel Guide

Remote and interface for Google's upcoming Android TV dongle leaked

Remote and interface for Google's upcoming Android TV dongle leaked

Earlier this year, clues indicated that Google was working on a new streaming video dongle that would both replace the Chromecast Ultra and run Android TV.

Google's Android TV dongle is expected to be priced at around $80.

XDA Developers have managed to get their hands on some renders as well as screenshots of the new device and the new interface it ushers in for Android TV. The remote also has a Google Assistant button which implies that it will have a microphone built-in as well. And for people looking for expanded support for Stadia, Google's new device could double as both a great video player and relay for their cloud gaming needs. It seems set to arrive in three different colours - black, white and light pink (not pink?).

Zoom growth explodes in coronavirus work world
Zoom Video posted a jump in earnings for the first quarter of 2020 driven by higher revenue. Zoom shares traded 2% lower during after-hours Tuesday.

The images in question come from XDA and XDA Recognized Developer deadman96385 who found an "out-of-box experience" video for the device (codenamed Sabrina) in a pre-release Chromecast firmware build. Unfortunately, because the renders don't show the entire remote, it's unclear if the remote will also feature dedicated buttons for third-party streaming services like Netflix or Hulu (though that's unlikely). The device is also likely to come with an IR blaster so users can configure it to work natively with their existing TVs. The menu at the top of the screen allows you to search for content, see what content is suggesting for you, and browse through movies, TV, live content, apps, and your library. In the center of the home screen is a massive carousel that recommends specific titles and the apps on which you can watch them. Another screenshot shows that the streamer will be able to provide alerts for smart home devices such as Google Nest cameras.

As you can see in the slides, the big change is an added tab for "Live" happenings, which appears to be designed directly for YouTube TV integration.

Based on the images, Google's new streaming dongle has taken on an oblong shape, but retains numerous same design cues from previous versions - namely the embossed G in the middle of the device and the all-matte colored exterior. Apple now dominates the high end of the market, but Google could take on the likes of Roku and Amazon at that price point. He now resides in NY writing for BGR.
