Cam Newton agrees to one-year contract with Patriots

Adam Schefter at ESPN has reported that Cam Newton is signing a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the Patriots. The 31-year-old had shoulder surgery at the end of the 2018 season, and a Lisfranc injury ended his 2019 campaign after just two games.

Newton will join 2019 fourth-round draft pick Jarrett Stidham and veteran Brian Hoyer in the Patriots' QB room. The contract is expected to be loaded with incentives, presumably based on games played, starts, and/or snaps after Newton missed 14 games previous year and ended the season in injured reserve. Because of National Football League regulations put in place for the COVID-19 crisis, team medical staffs haven't had the opportunity to examine Newton to gauge his recovery.

The deal, which will give Newton a chance to compete for the Patriots' starting job, is for the "bare minimum", according to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Arizona Cardinals WR Arrested After Driving Camaro Into Lake Erie
The portable breath test Braswell took showed that his blood alcohol content exceeded Ohio's legal limit, police said. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Braswell in the driver's seat, still trying to drive the auto forward.

He was the NFL MVP in 2015 when he accounted for 45 total touchdowns in the regular season and led the Panthers to the Super Bowl, a 24-10 loss to Denver.

Before releasing Newton, the Panthers signed former Minnesota Vikings starter and New Orleans Saints backup Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year, $63 million contract to play quarterback.

But a shoulder injury in the second half of the 2018 season caused his performance to deteriorate. Any opinions expressed do not necessarily reflect those of 98.5 The Sports Hub, Beasley Media Group, or any subsidiaries.
