It also asked the International Police to help detain Trump for ordering the drone attack that killed a top Iranian general in Baghdad.

"Therefore, if or when any such requests were to be sent to the General Secretariat", it added, ".Interpol would not consider requests of this nature".

Iranian prosecutor Ali Alqaismehr made the remarks during a meeting today with high-ranking judicial officials, saying arrest warrants had been issued for 36 individuals including politicians and military officials from the USA and other governments.

After a meeting of the country's Supreme Judicial Council, Mr Alqasimehr said that 35 others would face charges in Iran as well as Mr Trump. Iran's semi-official news agency Fars reported Tehran is now asking Interpol to assist with the arrest of US President Donald.

Local authorities end up making the arrests on behalf of the country that request it. According to Alqasi-Mehr, Iran would pursue Trump's prosecution even after the expiry of his term as president.

However, Interpol clarified that its constitution prevents them from "undertaking any intervention or activities of a political, military, religious or racial character".

Brian Hook, the USA special representative for Iran, dismissed the arrest warrant announcement during a news conference in Saudi Arabia on Monday.

Mourners carry the coffin of Soleimani during a funeral procession on January 4.

Soleimani was one of the most powerful people in Iran, and after his death, many Iranians protested in the streets, although it is unclear how many of them did so willingly.

The U.S. killed Soleimani and others in the January strike near Baghdad International Airport.

The Pentagon blamed Soleimani for the deaths of hundreds of Americans and USA allies in the months leading up to his killing.

U.S. Iran envoy Brian Hook said the warrant was a "propaganda stunt" at a news conference in Saudi Arabia.

"General Soleimani was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region", the Pentagon said at the time, calling the strike "decisive defensive" action aimed at deterring future Iranian attacks.
