Courtney Cox Returning For Scream Reboot

The wait is over as Deadline confirms Cox will reprise her iconic role as Gale Weathers for Scream 5. The film spawned three more sequels as well as an anthology series that aired on MTV and VH1, and the four films have grossed more than $600 million worldwide.

The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett while its screenplay will be penned by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. That would be keeping with the current trend in horror cinema, which has seen long-awaited direct sequels in series such as Halloween.

This entry will be the first film since 2011's Scream 4 and the first new addition to the beloved tongue-in-cheek horror franchise since the MTV/VH1 Scream series' third season ended last July.

New documents show Jeffrey Epstein contacts with Ghislaine Maxwell
Maxwell is now awaiting trial in NY , charged earlier this month with sex trafficking of underaged girls with Epstein and perjury. Otherwise, prosecutors said, the women may be harassed or intimidated and become reluctant to cooperate with the government.

While screenwriter Kevin Williamson has always been the brains behind this franchise, he's stepping into an executive producer role for this entry while James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock) write the screenplay this time. Although one might have been able to understand a pure Scream remake at this point, the presence of Cox and Arquette nearly demands that Campbell be along for the ride as well. This press release promises that more casting announcements will be coming soon, and we can only assume that means that Neve Campbell will be back as Sidney Prescott, the "final girl" from all four previous Scream movies.

As for what kind of territory a Scream 5 could even cover, your guess is as good as ours.

Production is slated to begin later this year in Wilmington, NC, albeit when proper safety protocols are established, with a 2021 release date in mind.
