Fraser Health confirms coronavirus case Dania Home in Burnaby

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix pleaded with British Columbians on Thursday to play it safe over the coming long weekend by keeping gatherings small and reducing contact with people outside their household bubble. The individual is now in self-isolation at home, while a rapid response team is on-site and communicating with residents and families.

Cases by health region since the start of the pandemic: 1,088 in Vancouver Coastal; 1,889 in Fraser; 144 in Island; 369 in Interior; 88 in Northern; and 63 people who reside outside of Canada.

Fraser Health has announced a COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care home in Burnaby.

Five people remained in hospital Friday, two of them in critical care, and 278 cases remain active.

Health officials did not have any new community outbreaks to announce today.

COVID-19: Health officials announce 50 new cases, one new death
Henry and Dix said health teams continue to support the active outbreaks on Haida Gwaii and at Fraser Valley Packers Inc. Of the total COVID-19 cases, five people are in hospital (no change from July 30), two of whom are in intensive care.

The ministry says most of the new cases are connected to an ongoing outbreak at a berry packing plant in the Fraser Valley.

"We can make this B.C. Day holiday weekend one where we find the right balance: having those important social connections with our friends and family, while taking precautions to protect ourselves and those around us", read the statement from Dix and Henry.

Numerous new cases have also involved younger people, in their 20s to 40s.

Dix and Henry urged residents to socialize safely this weekend, and directed people to Dr. Bonnie Henry's Good Times Guide on the government of British Columbia website.
