Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo Named 2019-20 Defensive Player of the Year
The season's not over and the awards are already coming in for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The 25-year-old's 97.4 defensive rating is the best mark on the team among players with at least 10 games played in 2019-20.
The Bucks lead that series three-games-to-one after three straight victories.
Antetokounmpo joined Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson and Kevin Garnett as players to do the MVP-Defensive Player of the Year double. Antetokounmpo received 75 of the 100 first-place votes from selected media members. The graceful is the Greek forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, which has managed to stay ahead of Anthony Davis (Lakers) and Rudy Gobert (Jazz) in voting. He was runner-up for the defensive award past year.
Milwaukee's league-best defensive rating allowed the Bucks to rack up the best net rating in the league (by far) and march to a first-place finish in the Eastern Conference.
National Hockey League will postpone next two days of 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs
Kane's tweet comes amid nationwide unrest after Blake, a black man, was shot seven times by police Sunday in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Alliance co-founder Akim Aliu called the NHL's initial inaction as being typical and disappointing.
Statistics toward consideration for the award were used through March 11, the night the National Basketball Association season was suspended after Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 prior to a game at Oklahoma City. "His commitment to defending, his commitment to winning is beyond incredible". He does everything defensively - literally everything.
While Giannis has been impressive on the offensive side of the court, averaging 29.5 points and 5.6 assists, his defensive numbers have been equally as stellar. He was leading the league with 11.5 defensive rebounds per game, while also averaging a little more than a steal and block.
Also, Antetokounmpo is among the candidates to win the MVP award for second consecutive season.
But it only works because Antetokounmpo is so good.
Should Antetokounmpo be named MVP this season, he will join Jordan and Olajuwon as the only players in National Basketball Association history to win both awards in the same season.
