North Korea's Kim says there will be no more war thanks to nuclear weapons

People wearing masks make their way down a street in Pyongyang, North Korea, July 3, 2020.

His arrival prompted Kim Jong Un to place the border city of Kaesong on lockdown as state media reported that testing showed he might have the virus, but South Korea said Monday he wasn't a confirmed patient.

Strict quarantine measures and the screening of districts were in progress, and test kits, protective clothing, and medical equipment were being rapidly supplied, the North's KCNA state news agency said.

The measures came after DPRK's leader Kim Jong Un declared an emergency on Sunday after a person was suspected to be infected with the coronavirus.

All those under quarantine were working at the Nampo seaport and Sinuiju-Dandong land border with China, Dr Edwin Salvador, WHO representative to North Korea, told Reuters by email, noting that the country has been quarantining labourers coming into contact with goods arriving into the country. There are 15 laboratories designated to test COVID-19 in the country.

But Secretary of State Mike Pompeo appeared to pour cold water on the possibility of another USA summit with North Korea, saying Trump only wanted to engage if there was a likelihood of real progress. It has long depended on the World Health Organization to procure drugs as sanctions against the country made imports hard.

North Korea fired a missile from waters off its eastern coast earlier this month as part of routine naval exercises, South Korea's military said Thursday.

"Theoretically, we can launch a low-earth orbit satellite via liquid-fuel rockets, but it's like delivering a dish of "jjajangmyeon" by a 10-ton truck", he said, referring to a type of South Korean delivery food, the Associated Press reported.

While Trump has left the door open for another summit with Kim, North Korea has said it sees no point in engaging with Washington, accusing it of breaking promises made at the first historic summit two years ago and turning dreams for peace into "a dark nightmare". "It is groundless for them to claim they are enrolling participants for human trials of COVID-19 vaccines".
