Staff member at Burnaby long-term care home tests positive for COVID -19

Cases by health region since the start of the pandemic: 1,088 in Vancouver Coastal; 1,889 in Fraser; 144 in Island; 369 in Interior; 88 in Northern; and 63 people who reside outside of Canada. Of the 50 new cases, five cases are epidemiologically-linked, meaning people who were never tested but were presumed to have COVID-19 because they developed symptoms and were close contacts of a laboratory-confirmed case.

Six of the 89 samples tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus responsible for COVID-19, VCH said in a news release Friday.

Dania Home is a two-storey long-term care home with 102 beds.

The worker from Dania Home is now self-isolating at home.

Fraser Health says Dania Home is a long-term care facility owned and operated by Dania Home Society. Two long-term care facilities and one acute-care facility are now dealing with active outbreaks.

There are no new community outbreaks, and public health officials are monitoring outbreaks in Haida Gwaii and at a Fraser Valley fruit packing plant. It's the second time in as many weeks that the number of new cases has topped 50, while the daily average has hovered around 30 in the weeks since B.C. entered Phase 3 of its reopening plan.
