A plume of smoke from the El Dorado Fire is seen from the Interstate 10 in Loma Linda Calif. Saturday Sept. 5 2020
More than 200 firefighters from San Luis Obispo County are helping fight some of those fires now burning throughout California.
"The wildfire situation throughout California is risky and must be taken seriously." said Randy Moore, regional forester for the Forest Service's Pacific Southwest Region that covers California. As of midnight Sunday local time, the El Dorado fire is still burning, with only 5 percent contained. The fire moved 15 miles (24 kilometers) in a single day and burned 56 square miles (145.04 square kilometers).
The blaze, growing under "extreme weather conditions", had devoured almost 79,000 acres (32,000 hectares) of land, while a cause remained under investigation, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire) said in a statement. "Words can not even begin to describe the devastation of this community". Officials hoped to keep the fire from pushing west toward Yosemite National Park.
Dozens of people have been trapped by the rapidly-expanding fire and Fresno Fire Battalion chief Tony Escobedo said smoke was hampering efforts by military choppers to rescue them. Another fire sparked in Oregon Monday has filled Portland with smoke.
In the June interview, Karvunidis said she regretted inspiring the parties, especially the ones that caused property damage or even injured people.
Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Rosamond, the pilot of a Chinook helicopter, said visibility was poor and winds increasingly strong during the three flights he made into the fire zone. Pacific Gas & Electric has turned off the power to 172,000 customers to try to prevent its power lines and other equipment from sparking more fires.
China's reusable spacecraft | How will it change space travel?
Friday's launch comes weeks after China launched Tianwen-1, the country's first Mars mission. The Soviet spacecraft, Buran, orbited the Earth twice during its single flight in 1988.
"We started getting information about how many people were out there, how many people to expect, and that number kept growing".
"CAL FIRE Law Enforcement has determined the El Dorado Fire, burning near Oak Glen in San Bernardino County, was caused by a smoke generating pyrotechnic device, used during a gender reveal party", the agency stated. "These winds will push those fires in places where we don't want them to go, close to where people live".
In Southern California, crews scrambled to douse several fires that roared to life in searing temperatures, including one that closed mountain roads in Angeles National Forest and forced the evacuation of the historic Mount Wilson Observatory.
The region has seen many major fires in recent years but Sierra National Forest forest supervisor Dean Gould said at the briefing Monday night that Creek Fire was likely the most aggressive and "is in a class by itself".
The fire spread quickly from that part toward the town, and resulted in evacuations of residents in its path. So far, eight people have died and more than 3000 structures have been destroyed.
