CBS All Access rebranding to 'Paramount+' in early 2021

The company earlier this year had told investors a rebranded and expanded service would arrive sometime the summer.

In addition, there will be a new version of longtime MTV series "Behind the Music". To bolster Paramount+ with more original content, ViacomCBS is developing Lioness, a spy drama, and The Offer, "a scripted series based on Oscar-winning producer Al Ruddy's experiences making The Godfather".

Viacom-owned streaming service CBS All Access is becoming Paramount+, the company announced this morning.

No price point was announced for the service but ViacomCBS said that it will launch in "early 2021" in the United States, with initial global expansion into Australia, Latin America and the Nordics.

Among the new shows in the works for the streaming platform is another reboot of The Game, the Mara Brock Akil comedy spinoff of Girlfriends that last aired on BET from 2011 to 2015.

Domenic DiMeglio, EVP, head of operations and chief marketing officer for ViacomCBS Digital, said: "No other pure-play SVOD service offers championship-level live sports from the NFL to SEC football, to UEFA Champions League, March Madness, and the Masters".

'Ghostrunner' coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One in October
The companies also announced an updated free demo of Ghostrunner will arrive on Steam for PC Tuesday, Sept. 29. Xbox One players who pre-order can get 10% off.

CBS All Access is now offered as part of the first Apple TV+ bundle, which includes both the service and Showtime for an additional $9.99 per month.

ViacomCBS says in the weeks since the July addition of content, All Access broke a new record for total monthly streams in August and experienced one of its best months ever in terms of new subscriber sign-ups (though revealed no actual numbers).

The streaming service is also getting more content in coming months.

As CBS All Access nears its 2021 rebrand to Paramount+, it will further expand its content lineup to reach more than 30,000 episodes and movies and continue to develop new originals from brands including BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures and others.

Paramount+ joins a growing roster of streaming services with the "plus" moniker, including, of course, Disney+ and Apple TV+. CBS All Access and the Showtime streaming service have about 13.5 million subscribers and are on track to hit 16 million by the end of the year. According to the company's own internal survey, the Paramount name commands name recognition not just in the U.S., but across the globe.

CBS All Access is trading in CBS for Paramount.
