As if this news isn't bad enough, the origin of one of the most destructive fires that is now still being dealt with, has been revealed.

A "pyrotechnic device" used at a gender reveal party in El Dorado Ranch Park in Yucaipa was later confirmed to be the cause of the blaze by The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The El Dorado Fire in Southern California's San Bernardino County has scorched 10,574 acres and was 16% contained as of Tuesday, according to fire officials, who say it's "one of the most risky fires" they've seen in the area. The exact device wasn't specified, but Buzzfeed News reports that it is believed to have either emitted colored smoke or fireworks to reveal the baby's sex.

According to CNN, there is actually surveillance footage that shows the fire being started, but officials have refused to release it as the incident is "still under investigation". "Soon after, the family can be seen on video scrambling and grabbing water bottles as the flames grow". They have not released the video, but have identified several laws that were broken, including "igniting the land" and arson.

The extent of damages caused by the blaze will ultimately decide whether the district attorney will file felony or misdemeanor charges.

Other than Nanshan, three others were honoured with the title of "The People's Hero". China has reported a total of 4,634 deaths from 85,144 cases of Covid-19.

If the case is pursued, the person who lit the pyrotechnic device is the person who is charged. "They were hoping to remember the day in a different way", Milloy said, adding that over 80% of fires are caused by humans and that people must be more aware of their surroundings. Milloy told Buzzfeed News that no arrests have been made. Last October, a pipe bomb at a gender-reveal party in Iowa killed one attendee.

The fire has forced evacuations across the area as the blaze, one of around 75 fires now burning in California, threatens homes. In 2020, the idea of a "gender reveal party" should make anyone cringe.

And here's your friendly reminder that even the blogger who popularized gender reveal parties wants it all to be over. "No one cares but you", Jenna Karvunidis wrote on Facebook.

Gender reveal parties have become increasingly popular over the past few years, and as they become more popular, the way the exciting news is revealed are also becoming much more elaborate. "I did at the time because we didn't live in 2019 and didn't know what we know now - that assigning focus on gender at birth leaves out so much of their potential and talents that have nothing to do with what's between their legs".
