Gossip is a worse plague than Covid - Pope Francis

For months now, the world has been plagued by the novel coronavirus and left many economies in shambles.

Francis has commented before on the perils of gossip in the Catholic Church. Worse. Let's make a big effort: "no gossiping!" .

"There are things that can have an impact on other brothers and sisters: it takes a greater love to rehabilitate the brother".

"Gossip closes a person's heart to the community and hurts the Church's unity, since the devil is the great gossiper who seeks to sow discord", Pope Francis said, according to The Vatican News.

"Let us make an effort not to be gossips".

Pope Francis, who is active on social media chats such as Twitter, began his Angelus by addressing the pilgrims as: "Dear brothers and sisters".

Pope Francis disclosed that speaking ill of other people and spreading gossip was worse than COVID-19.

Torres added a fourth late on, and the Ukrainians could not find even a consolation as they left Spain empty-handed. With the strike, he became Spain's youngest ever scorer at 17 years and 311 days old.

During the Angelus this Sunday, the pope reflected on the Gospel of the day, and he warned against the consequences of speaking badly about others.

"To correct the brother who made a mistake, Jesus suggests a pedagogy of recovery".

"Jesus' pedagogy is always a pedagogy of rehabilitation; He always tries to recover, to save", the pope said. "It is a question of going to the brother with discretion, not to judge him but to help him realise what he has done". In the first place he says: "point out the fault when the two of you are alone", that is, do not air his sin in public.

"If something goes wrong, offer silence and prayer for the brother or sister who make a mistake, but never gossip", he said on Sunday.

In other words, said Pope Francis, the teaching of Jesus is not to publicise the sins of others. "You should change a little in this regard".

"The two witnesses are called not to accuse and judge, but to help", said the Pope.

However, noted the Pope, sometimes even this communitarian intervention fails. Perhaps in the beginning we get angry, but then we say "thank you", because it's a gesture of fraternity, communion, help and rehabilitation.
